Fourth-Degree
The Fourth-Degree is a recognition of long-term responsibility and contribution within the Takata lineages of Usui Shiki Reiki Ryōhō. It is not a separate “system” of Reiki, but an advanced level of training and service that builds upon existing Master training.
Prerequisites
Admission to Fourth-Degree training requires that the student has already completed both of the following Master-level trainings:
- Master Intensives in the Takata → Barbara McCullough → Helen Borth lineage.
- Master Intensives in the Takata → Fran Brown → Mary Goslen lineage.
In other words, the student must already be fully trained as a Master/Teacher in both Takata line paths currently taught.
Other Initiation Methods
At the Fourth-Degree, other Takata-line initiation methods may also be discussed, compared, or, where appropriate, taught in context. The intention is not to create a new system, but to understand how these expressions relate to the core structure of Usui Shiki Reiki Ryōhō.
Additional Symbols
As part of Fourth-Degree training, three additional symbols are given. These symbols are not presented as a new, separate Reiki system, but as advanced tools to support deeper understanding and refined application of the existing Takata lineages.
Merit-Based Recognition
There is no tuition fee for the Fourth-Degree. It is conferred solely on the basis of merit, commitment, and demonstrated responsibility.
In addition to the teacher’s own discernment, candidates must also receive endorsement from at least two current Fourth-Degree members who can speak to the candidate’s practice, integrity, and readiness.
Training Structure
There is no predetermined schedule or fixed number of days for Fourth-Degree training. The format, timing, and specific assignments are decided collaboratively between teacher and student, according to what is genuinely needed for that individual's development and responsibilities.
Content for this page will continue to be refined and expanded as the Fourth-Degree curriculum is formally articulated. Coming in 2026.
