Teaching Reiki & The Reiki Preservation Society
In 2011, Robert Fueston founded The Reiki Preservation Society with the vision of providing a dedicated space for students to easily connect with traditional Reiki Master/Teachers. His aim was to create a central hub for those continuing the teachings of Hawayo K. Takata in the style of Usui Shiki (Reiki) Ryoho. Standards for training were high, producing students who thoroughly learn the methods and embody the teachings of the system. Remaining faithful to traditional training methodologies and emphasizing in-depth understanding rather than surface-level knowledge is truly exceptional in the present-day context.
Previously, the Third Degree/Master training was offered in an apprenticeship model, requiring years of training. In 2026, with 30 years of experience, Robert has changed his teaching format regarding Usui Shiki (Reiki) Ryoho.
Students may now choose their preferred path. They can focus solely on the course materials and initiation methods, allowing Reiki itself to guide their continued development. Alternatively, those who wish to explore the deeper foundations of the system may enroll in the Contemplative Mastery series. These options are flexible—students may engage with one, the other, or both at any time.
The Contemplative Mastery series is also designed for Masters from other lineages who do not wish to change lineage affiliation but want to strengthen their teaching. Its purpose is to support instructors in becoming the most skillful and authentic teacher-version of themselves.

Robert's book, Reiki: Transmissions of Light, Volume 1 – The History and System of Usui Shiki Reiki Ryōhō, is available in paperback and Kindle editions:
Robert currently offers two complementary forms of training:
- Master Intensives (McCullough and Brown lineages), which focus on learning and practicing the traditional initiation methods.
- Contemplative Mastery, which emphasizes long-term reflection and inquiry to deepen understanding of the system.
Students may choose either or both paths: to receive the initiations and learn the initiation forms through the Intensives, and/or to engage in ongoing contemplative training through the Contemplative Mastery course*.
